Vaclav Havel

The first small lie in the
service of truth, the first
small injustice in the name
of justice, the first small
unmoral act with reference
to a moral reason, and the
first reduction of the
continuous alertness is
synonymous with the certain
beginning of the end.”

Letters to Olga, 1988
